SGPC President meets families of Sikh youths detained in Dibrugarh Jail of Assam

AMRITSAR: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami today met the families of Bhai Amritpal Singh and his companions detained in the Dibrugarh Jail of Assam during their dharna in the heritage street here today.

He discussed the current situation of the Dibrugarh Jail with their families who are on hunger strike against the government's mental and physical harassment of the Singhs detained under the NSA and the ongoing talks with the Punjab government.

Advocate Dhami assured the families of the detained Singhs that the Sikh organization Shiromani Committee is committed to support them in every aspect and soon the next strategy will be decided after discussing this issue with Jathedar Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

While talking to the media on this occasion, Shiromani Committee President Advocate Dhami said that Sikhs have been jailed outside Punjab before, but it has never happened that cameras and recorders are installed in bathrooms to invade their privacy and mentally.

SGPC President said that the Sikhs chose the path of struggle and started a hunger strike in protest against the harassment by the Dibrugarh jail administration, which also increased the worries of the families in Punjab.

He said that the families of the Singhs have also started a hunger strike since yesterday. Advocate Dhami asked the Punjab government to immediately listen to the families of these Sikh youths and resolve this issue.

He also appealed to the Sikh youths and their families in Dibrugarh Jail that Gurmat Siddhant does not allow physical torture through hunger strike.

Thsaid that he will discuss with Singh Sahib Jathedar Sri Akal Takht Sahib that the next strategy should be decided by sitting with these families who are on hunger strike.

On this occasion, General Secretary of Shiromani Committee Bhai Rajinder Singh Mehta, Member S. Surjit Singh Bhittewad, Mr. Bawa Singh Gumanpura, s. Amarjit Singh Bandala, Secretary of the Shiromani Committee. Pratap Singh, OSD Satbir Singh Dhami, Additional Secretary. Balwinder Singh Kahlwan, apart from the family members of the detained Singhs. Jasbir Singh Ghuman, s. Jaskaran Singh Kahansinghwala etc. were present.
