CHANDIGARH: Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD) supremo and former Chief Minister of Punjab Parkash Singh Badal today returned his Padma Vihushan to President of India in protest against three farm laws and adament atttitude of center government.
Badal has written a letter to the President of India informing him of concern on the farmer's agitation and said that he was deeply pained to see the plight of farmers. He said that three agriculture laws were not in favour of farmers. He said that this is most disturbing period of his long political careeer.
It is recalled that SAD was part of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) when the three laws were passed by the Parliament. SAD leader and Badal's daughter-in-law Harsimrat Kaur Badal was member of Modi cabinet when these laws were approved by the cabinet. However when Punjab farmers started agitation against the farm laws, Harsimrat Badal resigned from the cabinet and SAD withdrew its support to NDA. SAD understood to have taken the stand to save its vote bank in the farming community.
