AMRITSAR: The Rejuvenated Shiromani Akali Dal today announced its decision to contest the upcoming election for the post of President of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) during the General House session scheduled for tomorrow. The announcement followed extensive deliberations and a consensus among the party’s senior leadership, working committee members, and SGPC members.
A meeting of the party’s senior leadership, working committee, and SGPC members was convened in Sri Amritsar under the chairmanship of Party President Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh. After a collective discussion, it was unanimously resolved that the party would participate actively in the SGPC General House proceedings.
According to an official statement issued from the Sri Amritsar Sahib office, the authority to decide the party’s candidate for the SGPC presidency has been vested in the SGPC members associated with the party. The statement further highlighted that this marks a historic precedent, as it is the first time in history that such complete authority has been conferred directly upon the Shiromani Committee members themselves.
The statement also underscored that the collective sentiment of the party’s leadership is that all SGPC members and members of the elected interim committee must raise their voices against any actions detrimental to the principles, sanctity, and supreme authority of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
It was further conveyed that before the General Session, all party-affiliated members will convene collectively to finalise the next course of action. The party affirmed its resolve to raise its voice in the General House against the serious violations of the Panthic code of conduct witnessed in recent times.
