Punjab Spends Rs 201 Crore to Strengthen State Health Infrastructure: Dharamsot

PATIALA:As a part of the drive initiated by the Punjab Government to transform the health sub-centers across the state into Health and Wellness Centers for providing the better healthcare to the people of the state, district got 20 such centers out of total 107, launched by the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh in Punjab today virtually.
Cabinet Minister for Forest, Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities, S. Sadhu Singh Dharamsot attended the District level function at local Administrative Complex, Patiala. He said that providing better health care to the people of the state was the top priority of the government led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh for which the State Government was spending Rs. 201 crore to improve and strengthen the infrastructure of the health sector.
Mr.Dharamsot termed these Health and Wellness Centers launched by the Health and Family Welfare Department as a milestone in strengthening the primary health sector of the state. He said that the initiative taken by the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to start such centers during the crisis of COVID-19 pandemic, would give a major impetus to the health services in the rural areas. He said that these centers would reduce the pressure on the secondary and tertiary health centers in the state as people would be screened for major ailments and treated at an early stage.
Mr.Sadhu Singh Dharamsot further said that Community Health Officers would be posted in these centers and there would be regular health check up and treatment of pregnant women, newborns, children, elderly, family planning, communicable and non-communicable diseases, dental, Psychiatric Diagnosis, Prevention, Management and Emergency services including ear and throat will also be available free of cost.
The Cabinet Minister appealed to the people to take precautionary measures to avoid the onslaught of the second wave of COVID-19 and said that our doctors, nursing staff and para medical staff have fought an unimaginable battle at the cost of their lives that has set an example for other states with the cure rate from CORONA VIRUS over 93 per cent.
Responding to the queries about the Akali Dal's rallies, Mr. Dharamsot said that Punjab had been saved from the Akali Dal which had been looting, beating and pushing back Punjab for 10 years, during its tenure so people would not believe them anymore.
Meanwhile, Principal Investigator of VRDL Lab of Government Medical College, Patiala Dr. Rupinder Bakshi and Vice Principal Dr. RPS Sibia apprised the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh through video conferencing about the arrangements made for the prevention of COVID at Patiala. Civil Surgeon Dr. Harish Malhotra said that the District already has 44 such centers and 20 more added to the list today. New Health and Wellness Centers have been set up at Laut, Bakshiwala, Khedi Mania, Nandpur Kesho, Phaggan Majra, Rakhra, Mehtabgarh, Bhasmara, Fatehpur Rajputan, Alana, Sehra, Uksi Sainian, Pasiana, Rajgarh, Spherra, Mavi Sappan, Panjola, Lachhru Kalan, Jalalpur and Ganda Kheri.
On this occasion, PRTC Chairman K.K. Sharma, Municipal Corporation Mayor Sanjeev Sharma Bittu, District Planning Committee Chairman Santokh Singh, District Urban Congress President K.K. Malhotra, Punjab Large Scale Industry Welfare Board Vice Chairman K.K. Sehgal, District Rural Congress President Gurdeep Singh Untsar, District Women Congress President Kiran Dhillon, Youth Congress Presidents (Rural and Urban) Sanjeev Sharma and Anuj Khosla, and Deputy Commissioner Kumar Amit, ADC (G) Pooja Sayal Grewal, Assistant Commissioner (G) Dr. Ismat Vijay Singh, Civil Surgeon Dr. Harish Malhotra, Principal Govt Medical College Dr. Rajan Singla, Assistant Civil Surgeon Parveen Puri were also present.
