Punjab Police fights Corona in superactive mode

CHANDIGARH: Driven by the goal of restraining the spread of Coronavirus in the state, Punjab Police has quickly sprung to action by way of proactive measures, in the wake of the pandemic. Steering the mission is the Director General of Police Dinkar Gupta who, through a series of videos shared from his social media accounts, urged people to adhere to all precautions prescribed by the administration and to stay indoors.

Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh also commended the laud-worthy initiatives being understaken by the Punjab Police, while sanctioning an amount of Rs 3 Cr. towards the provisioning of safe and healthy food packets to the Jawaans on duty.

Going a step further, Gupta also advised residents to effectively utilise the free time owing to the lockdown in constructive and creative pursuits. He encouraged them to think out of the box and engage in individual or family activities, while also sharing innovative suggestions for boosting awareness on the Coronavirus.

"I would invite the people on social media especially the youngsters to utilize this time of curfew to enhance their creativity and share ideas to create awareness about Corona virus. We all should work together to curtail the spread of this nefarious disease to keep everyone safe, " Gupta said in a video that has gone viral on the social media.

"The Jawans of Punjab Police too are attentive on roads and doing a remarkable job and I appeal all of you to cooperate with administration to make implementation of the curfew easier, " Gupta said while lauding the bevy of initiatives being undertaken by his force.

This endeavour of the Punjab Police is an endorsement of responsibility-driven community policing that is working round the clock on enhancing people’s trust, in the wake of the global pandemic. Those in the know to the development said that the authorities are slated to launch a campaign very soon with the idea of engaging people, so that they confine themselves to their homes.

"This lockdown is to keep you and your family safe and Police will leave no stone unturned to help and serve the society, " he said echoing the message that people must adhere to the norms of social distancing and use sanitizer, apart from keeping their surroundings clean and disinfected.

Noteworthy enough to deserve a special mention, a video that demonstrates the humane side of Punjab Police has been catching the attention of netizens, post going viral on social media. In this video, police officials can be seen assisting an elderly vegetable vendor by buying all vegetables from him and later distributing these to the needy in the slum areas, while ensuring the right precautions throughout the exercise.

Gupta had shared the first video of the series, highlighting the right safety and precautionary guidelines for bolstering the fight against COVID-19, on Tuesday.
