CHANDIGARH: Punjab Police has identified the killer of Shiv Sena Hindustan leader Sudhir Suri, shot dead at Amritsar today. The assailtant Sandeep Singh Sunny is a local resident and known to the victim.
Sandeep Sunny is said to be neighbour of Suri and he runs a garment shop near the spot where Suri was gunned down. Police has recovered .32 bore pistol used by assailant. It is a licenced weapon issued in the name of accused.
Suri who was center of controversies over his speeches against Sikh Gurus and leaders was shot dead at around 3.40 PM when he was holding dharna outside a temple. There were heated exchanges between members Suri and members of Hindu temple management. Suri was sitting on dharna to protest against dumping idols of Hindus Gods on roadside by the temple authorities.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that assailant was arrested on spot and police was invstigating the conspiracy behind the murder. He said that accused had fired fove bullets on Suri from close range. Suri was rushed to escort hospital where he died during treatment.
The tension previaled in Amritsar city dominated by Hindu community. DGP has urged the citizens to maintain peace and harmony. He assured the all accused involved in cospiracy would be arrested.
