AMRITSAR: In memory of the millions of Punjabis who lost their lives during the partition of India and Pakistan in 1947, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee organized an Ardas ceremony at Sri Akal Takht Sahib. After the Bhog of Sri Akhand Path Sahib, the Jatha of Hazuri Raagi Bhai Jagroop Singh of Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib performed Gurbani Kirtan. After which Ardas was performed for the departed souls by Bhai Gurcharan Singh and the holy Hukamnama was read to the congregation by Giani Gurmukh Singh, the Chief Granthi of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

During the event, Giani Gurmukh Singh, while discussing with the congregation, said that during the partition of the country in 1947, where lakhs of Punjabis lost their lives, people also had to leave their lands, properties and businesses. During this partition, the Sikh community had to be separated from their holy shrines. The desire to visit many shrines including Gurdwara Sri Nankana Sahib that remained in Pakistan is still present in every Sikh. He said that it is a commendable step for the Shiromani Committee to pay tribute by organizing a function at Sri Akal Takht Sahib in memory of many innocent people who were killed during the partition. On this occasion, Manager S. Narinder Singh, S. Rajinder Singh Ruby, Panj Pyare Bhai Mangal Singh, Bhai Paramjit Singh and the congregation were present.
