PATIALA: The maximum power demand in Punjab on July 5 crossed 17150 MW for the first time and touched 17233 MW due to hot and humid weather and paddy load.
The PSPCL was drawing over 10, 600 MW from the northern grid while its own gross generation was 6560 MW. All the thermal units are running today on full load, The three state thermal plants were generating 1968 MW during maximum load conditions. The private thermal plants at Rajpura and Talwandi Sabo were generating around 3100 MW. . The total hydro generation was 1048 MW including 550 MW from four Ranjit Sagar Dam units.
In the month of June the maximum power demand crossed 16800 MW with the maximum supply by PSPCL was 3510 lakh units on June 13.
As per NRLDC daily report , on Friday , Punjab's electricity demand remained between 12000 MW to 17000 MW and power supply was 3448 lakh units. As per PSPCL report the maximum demand on Friday was 17052 MW and last year it was 13312 MW on corresponding day.
PSPCL claims it took additional measures, including importing more power and optimizing local generation, to meet this demand. A PSPCL engineer said at Patiala there is a gap of 1000 MW to 1200 MW between restricted and unrestricted power supply, but we are managing the system extremely well.
The water level in Bhakra Dam is 1583.9 feet lower by 7 feet as compared to last year's level of 1591.6 feet .The water inflow on Friday was 44425 cusecs and outflow was 26200 cusecs.
At Ranjit Sagar water level is 504.4 meters, up by 2.5 meters as compared to 501.9 meters on the corresponding day. The inflow in RSD was 7200 cusecs and outflow was 11650 cusecs.
At Pong Dam the level is 1324.6 feet, up by 17 feet as compared to last year's 1307.8 feet. At Pong reservoir the inflow was34800 cusecs with an outflow of 18500 cusecs.
The Coal Stock at thermal plants in the state and power sector is sufficient. Lehra Mohabbat thermal has 17coal stocks, Ropar thermal 30 days stock, and Goindwal 20 days stock. In the private sector Rajpura has 25 days stock and Talwandi Sabo 23 days coal stock
