KAPURTHALA:Deputy Commissioner Kapurthala . Deepti Uppal said that people should be aware of the spread of corona during the upcoming festive season as the positive cases of corona have decreased but they may increase again in the month of November.

Addressing the people during her weekly Facebook session today, the Deputy Commissioner said that people should take seriously the fact that although the number of cases is declining but the epidemic is not over yet, we need to exercise utmost restraint till the vaccine arrives. The Deputy Commissioner said that so far 257 active cases were pending in the district and 161 deaths had been reported.

She said that the main reason for high mortality rate in the district was non-testing of corona by the people. She said that in the coming days due to the festivals the responsibility of the shopkeepers would be further increased to ensure that they follow the instructions regarding Corona. She said that besides stopping the crowds, customers must be given masks to check the spread of the virus.

She expressed concern that the wearing of masks by the youth was considered a ban but that it was endangering the lives of the elderly and the victims of serious diseases in their families.

The Deputy Commissioner also said that the Punjab Government has decided to partially open the educational institutions under which the students of class IX to XII could be called a school with the consent of their parents
