AMRITSAR: Senior BJP leader Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina today sharply criticised the shocking and surprising assertions made by former MLA Navjot Kaur Sidhu, in which she claimed that it “takes Rs 500 crore suitcase” for anyone to become face of the party for the candidature of Chief Minister. Chhina said this stunning revelation exposes the deeply entrenched corrupt practices that have come to define the Congress party’s political culture.
“When a former Congress leader publicly suggests that the route to the Chief Minister’s chair is paved with cash-filled suitcases, it raises extremely serious questions about how the Congress functions and how decisions affecting millions of people are made, ” Chhina stated adding that such allegations strike at the core of India’s democratic values and principles which demands fair deals in public life.
“The top leadership of Congress including Rahul Gandhi need to explain about these allegations”, Chhina asked adding that top leadership positions in Congress seems to be traded like commodities and this speaks volumes of corruption. “Punjab deserves leaders chosen on merit, integrity, and public service, not those elevated through secret financial dealings, ” he said.
Further reacting to Navjot Kaur Sidhu’s claim that Navjot Singh Sidhu would return to politics if Congress declares him its Chief ministerial candidate, Chhina said the statement clearly shows that the Sidhu couple is concerned only about personal ambition and not public welfare. He challenged both Sidhus to explain what they had delivered for Amritsar during Navjot Singh Sidhu’s 10 year’s stint as an MP and their respective 5-year terms as MLAs from Amritsar (East) constituency.
