Month long events to celebrate Punjabi Week-2020 begins

CHANDIGARH:  The Punjab Government organizes events to celebrate Punjabi Week every year during the month of November. This year seven events would be organized in different districts of the state to celebrate Punjabi Week.

In a statement issued here today the Minister for Higher Education and Languages Mr. Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa said that these functions have been planned by the Punjab Languages Department as per the directions of the Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh. He said that these events began today with a literary event dedicated to Punjabi Day at Patiala.

Mr. Bajwa said that this year seven events would be held to celebrate Punjabi Week-2020 following the Covid-19 protocol. The Languages Minister said that during these events discussions would be held to promote the Punjabi language and culture. He also said that the views expressed by the scholars for the development of Punjabi language and culture during these events would be printed in the form of a booklet by the Languages Department.

Giving information about the format of these events, Mr. Rahul Bhandari, Secretary, Department of Higher Education said that during Punjabi Week-2020 celebrations a play dedicated to the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji will be staged on Thursday, November 06, 2020 at Sultanpur Lodhi Kapurthala, Kavi Darbar dedicated to the birth centenary of the great poetess Smt. Amrita Pritam on Monday, November 09, 2020 at Bhasha Bhawan, Patiala, seminar dedicated to the 400th birth anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji on Thursday, November 12, 2020 at Bhasha Bhawan, Patiala, seminar dedicated to the 750th birth anniversary of Bhagat Namdev ji on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at Fatehgarh Churian, Gurdaspur, ‘Bir Rass’ Kavi Darbar dedicated to the 300th birth anniversary of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Ji on Monday, November 23, 2020 at Sri Fatehgarh Sahib and the farewell function will be followed by a cultural function and Best Literary Award Ceremony on Friday, November 27, 2020 at Bhasha Bhawan, Patiala.
