CHANDIGARH:  State Congress President Sunil Jakhar on Monday congratulated the party's state candidate selection committee and district party observors for their hard work, dedication and stupendous role in ensuring landslide victory for Congress in local bodies polls, resulted for which were announced last week. On the occasion, Congress state in-charge Harish Rawat was also present who lauded party cadre for their resolve while urging them to keep working hard for next year's assembly elections.

Speaking on the occasion, party state president Sunil Jakhar said that the massive win for the party was the direct result of Chairman Mandi Board Laal Singh Ji led committee and observers which not only ensured right candidiates were chosen for the election but also ran party's campaign in a concerted manner. People of Punjab have reposed their faith in Congress once again, Jakhar further said adding that it was an honour and an added responsibilty for the party cadre and party would further scale up its the pace of development works in the state. Underlining the overwhelming sentiment in favour of Congress, Jakhar said that party would aggressively take its policies, achievements and programmes to the grass roots as part of 'the CaptainFor2022' campaign. He also warned of strict action against those who worked against the party in the local bodies polls.

Pointing out the negative policies of opposition parties, Jakhar said the result of MC Polls demonstrate public anger against all those parties who have let Punjab down in the past. Lambasting BJP for spiralling prices of essentials, Jakhar pointed out that centre has completely forsaken the safeguarding of public interests at the door of big corporates. Similarly, he said faceless and policy-less AAP is only acting as a B-team of BJP.

Training his guns on the Akalis, Jakhar said that party was in coalition with BJP for ten long years and its disconnect with people on the ground has brought it to the present stage. On the other hand, he underlined the fact that Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh inspite of grave disruptions in form of Covid and centre's step-motherly treatment, did not let pace of progress in state be affected. Punjabis know that in this difficult period, only Captain Amarinder Singh can provide a sense of safety and continued progress and that is why they have once again given the massive mandate in his favour.

Castigating centre for its egoistical stand, Jakhar said that inspite of acceding to demands of protesting farmers it has by not allowing Nankana Sahib Jatha demonstrated its communal mindset. Modi regime is employing every possible trick to suppress our state but Punjab would continue its struggle through democratic means, he added.

On the occasion, Chairman Mandi Board Laal Singh, Political Secy to CM Captain Sandhu, and Youth Congress president Brinder Singh Dhillon were also present.
