CHANDIGARH: Expressing concern over the violence in the peaceful movement launched by farmers of Punjab, Haryana and North India in order to seek fixation of price of agricultural commodities to make farming profitable, to bring laborer-farmer families out from the fiscal distress and to strengthen the food security of the country, the Kirti Kisan Forum has advised farmer organisations to unite at one platform.

The KKF has advised farmer organisations to continue the struggle peacefully to seek the resolution of the issues related to the farming sector. Punjab farmers, who have been raising their voice for long to make farming profitable venture, have been a role model for farmers struggling world over in this regard.

Expressing grief over the death of a young farmer Shubkaran in the violence on the Khanuri border, forum members have appealed to the government to conduct a fair investigation into this very unfortunate incident and to punish those responsible for his death. While supporting the constitutional right of farmers to hold a peaceful struggle, the forum has strongly appealed that efforts should be made to solve on priority the problems of farmers and farm labour, who feed the countrymen and guard the country’s borders.

The Forum feels that there is an urgent need to address agricultural issues in the light of the forecasted future food crisis at the global level in near future. The country’s food security is only possible if the price of farming commodities is fixed as per the formula recommended by Dr Swaminathan.
