Kapurthala police crackdown on drug menace

KAPURTHALA: On the directions of Dinkar Gupta, IPS Director General of Police,
Punjab, and under supervision of Smt. Kanwardeep Kaur, IPS, Senior Superintendent
of Police Kapurthala, a special anti-drug campaign against drug peddlers and persons
involved in narcotic substances has been going on since February 25 in district
Kapurthala.

Under this campaign, special police teams were formed to conduct search
operations in 07 drug affected villages of the district. In this search operation, a total of
21 NDPS cases were registered and 22 accused persons were arested. In these cases,
236 Gm Heroin, 100 Gm Opium, 03 Kg Poppy Husk, 500 Gm Ganja, 95 Gm Intoxicated
Powder and 2221 Intoxicated Tablets were recovered. Also, One Zen car and one Motor
cycle were recovered from these drug peddlers.

In this crackdown on drug trade, a total of 05 excise cases are

registered and 05 accused persons have been arrested with, a total recovery of 62, 430
ML illicit liquor and 20, 250 ML licit liquor.

As per Smt. Kanwardeep Kaur, IPS, Senior Superintendent of

Police Kapurthala, 12 POs (Proclaimed offenders) in various NDPS cases have been
arrested and presented to concerned Hon'ble courts. Under this drive, the search for
remaining POs is going on. Under this anti-drug campaign, more persons will be
booked and arrested in the coming days.
