Joginder Mann meets Sports Minister Hayer, demands integrated sports complex and stadium for Phagwara

PHAGWARA:Former Punjab Minister and AAP leader Joginder Singh Mann today sought kind intervention of Sports and Youth Services Minister Mr Meet Hayer for setting up a world class integrated sports complex and stadium at Phagwara.
Mann, who called on Sports Minister today, congratulated him for the path breaking initiatives taken by him for encouraging Sports in the state. Seeking kind intervention of Minister for setting up of a state of the art Stadium cum integrated Sports complex in Phagwara assembly segment, he said that Phagwara is the hub of Doaba region and its hard working and resilient residents have excelled in every sphere. S. Mann said that the residents of Phagwara have proved their mettle in every sphere and brought laurels for the state and country.

S. Mann lamented that due to some reasons Phagwara has lagged behind in field of sports though some eminent sportspersons have been produced from here. He said that the main reason for it is that Phagwara does not have a good Sports stadium or ground. S. Mann urged the Sports Minister to set up an integrated sports complex cum stadium in the city on the name of Chief Architect of Indian Constitution Dr BR Ambedkar.

The former Minister said that it will help in giving impetus to sports in the constituency. He further said that that will be humble tribute to Baba Sahib Ambedkar, who have changed the lives of millions of people by showing way to them. S. Mann said that setting up of sports stadiums is the need of the hour to channelize the unbounded energy of youth in a positive direction and wean them away from the menace of drugs.

He said that setting up of the stadium will help will encourage the youth to excel in sports and the provision of basic facilities like athletic track, sports grounds and others will go a long way in boosting sporting activity in Phagwara. Meanwhile, the Minister assured S. Mann that the state government will sympathetically look into the issue.
