CHANDIGARH: Punjab Excise department has unearthed an illicit liquor factory in the neighbourhood of SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal's native village in Mukatsar district.
The illegal liquor bottling plant was functioning from an orchard in village Badal. The kingpin Manoj Kumar has been arrested but police is also investigating role of an Akali leader close to Badal family.
It was first major raid by excise department during its operation red rose launched last year. Join Excise Commissioner said that a gang was operating in the area and supplying illicit liquor in southern districts of state.
The department has recovered 2200 liters extra neutral alcohal, holograms, packaging mterial of premium brands and packed cases for delivery.
Police party has also arrested Pargat Singh and Jashan Singh who were working in the factory. More arrests are expected after investigation, said Mukatsar SSP D Sudervizhi. A FIR has been lodged in Lambi police station.
