CHANDIGARH: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Sunil Jakhar has said that the BJP govt which had completely failed to protect people from the wrath of Corona, in this difficult time, was stooping so low in harassing the people who were sincerely engaged in public service. He accused the BJP Govt of trying hard to save the fake image of PM Modi rather than working to save lives of its citizens.
Strongly condemning the Delhi Police's interrogation of Youth Congress National President Youth Congress president B V Srinivas, who is in the forefront of coordinating Covid-19 relief, the state Congress chief said that in this crisis of Corona where the people were facing unprecedented medical emergency, the Modi government was working to destroy the democratic values and the high traditions of the country instead of caring for the betterment of all and service to humanity.
Jakhar said that the manner in which hundreds of human bodies were being found in and around the banks of the river Ganga has exposed the horrendous record of the Covid management of the Modi-Yogi duo. “Had the Prime Minister made timely preparations to tackle Covid, the situation would not have been this frightening . The biggest tragedy is that rather than being commended the front line activists who were serving the people in this difficult time are being harassed by Delhi police, he said.
He said that the questioning of Srinivas about the resources arranged to help the needy people during the Covid crisis has once again exposed the arrogance of the BJP government and its disregard for the public interest. “The manner in which the staff of the New Zealand Embassy was assisted by IYC was appreciated across the world but the Modi government was harassing the organisation leaders for such social service. It was not just a matter of questioning Srinivas but also a number of police cases had also been registered in BJP-rule UP against people who exposed the failure of the govt or who helped Covid patients. Attempts were also made to gag the media that highlighted the truth, Jakhar added.
While terming the behavior of the Modi government as highly unfortunate, PPCC chief said that Congress would strongly oppose such a narrow mindset and actions of the BJP. He asked the Modi government to apologize to the country for this heinous mistake so that the people engaged in public service could serve humanity without any fear.
