CHANDIGARH: The PWD Minister, Punjab and National Spokesperson of Congress, Mr. Vijay Inder Singla today disclosed that the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has accorded approval to the construction of 'Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Marg' from Sultanpur Lodhi to Dera Baba Nanak as part of which the decision has been taken to upgrade the 136.14 Km long road at a cost of Rs. 96.15 crore besides widening the same by 10 Metres.
Reacting to the statement of the Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal about demanding construction of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Marg from the Union Government, Mr. Singla said that as is the wont of her family, the akali leader is habitual to making statements for narrow political gains without knowing the facts. The Congress leader said that it would be better if the akali leader gets fully conversant with the facts and ground realities before speaking.
Mr. Singla also added that the proposal to name Sultanpur Lodhi - Kapurthala - Kartarpur - Beas - Batala (Including Batala Byepass)- Dera Baba Nanak Marg as 'Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Marg' was okayed in the cabinet meeting held at Sultanpur Lodhi on 10th September. During the meeting, it was also decided to upgrade 136.14 Km road at a cost of Rs. 96.15 crore besides widening it by 10 metres.
The Congress leader providing details about the efforts being made by the Chief Minister since the past one year for construction of the Marg, elaborated that the State Government initiated the year long celebrations in connection with the 550th Prakash Purb on 23rd November, 2018 during the grand function at Sultanpur Lodhi on the eve of 549th Prakash Purb celebrations. In the presence of the former PM Dr. Manmohan Singh, Captain Amarinder Singh had announced constructing 'Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Marg'. In the aftermath of this, on the orders of the Chief Minister, his Chief Principal Secretary on 20th May, 2019, deliberated on planning routes, identifying villages and estimates with regard to the costs. After a continuous series of meetings, the approval concerning the project was given last month in the cabinet meeting at Sultanpur Lodhi.
