CHANDIGARH: The proximity of Badal family with former Punjab DGP Sumedh Singh Saini has once against came to limelight with a registration of FIR against Saini in Balwant Singh Multani disapearance case of 1991. Saini has applied for anticipatory bail in Mohali court on which decision will be pronounced on Monday.

The exposures about Satnam Singh Kaler a senior advocate, close to Badal family defending Saini in present case of kidnapping and disposing off body of Sikh youth has made Badal family tizzy as they feared backlash from Sikh masses. Badal family is already facing blot in Guru Granth Sahib sacrilege cases.

The controversy involving Badal family started when Tarsem Singh Kaler appeared for Saini in the Mohali Court to seek bail for former DGP. Kaler is Chairman of the Sikh Gurdwara Juducial Commission, an appointee of former CM Parkash Singh Badal. Arshadeep Singh Kaler son of Satnam Singh Kaler, also an advocate is spokesman of Shiromani Akali Dal(Badal).

Satnam Singh Kaler however announced to withdraw from the Saini's (See Video above) after his criticism by Sikh organisations on social media. Since the controversy was aimed to target Badal family, Kaler probably withdrew from case under pressure from Badal family. It is recalled that Badal family is already facing wrath of Sikh community in Guru Granth Sahib sacrilege cases and for shielding Saini during their ten years rule in Punjab. Saini was appointed DGP by Parkash Singh Badal on April 15, 2012 despite opposition by Sikh bodies. Saini's appointment had raised many eyebrows since he was also facing a case of murder of two of his relatives, Saini brothers of Ludhiana.

Kaler had taken an excuse of criticism by Sikh organisations to withdraw from the case but the fact of the matter is that this case was bieng seen as another attempt by Badal family to protect former DGP. He has been named in the FIR registered for the disappearance of Balwant Singh Multani in 1991. He was picked up from his home in Mohali and allegedly eliminated. Saini was SSP Chandigarh at that time and he had suspected involvement of Multani in a bomb attack on him. The victim was son of IAS officer Darshan Singh Multani who fought a long battle for prosecution of Saini.

Besides Saini other police officials DSP Baldev Singh, Sub-Inspectors Satbir Singh,    Harsahai,   Jagir Singh, Anoop Singh, and Kuldeep Singh are also booked on charges of kidnapping or abduction in order to murder, causing disappearance of evidence, wrongful confinement, voluntarily causing hurt to exhort confession and criminal conspiracy at Mautaur Police Station in Mohali.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court had given this case for investigation to CBI which was challenged in the Supreme Court. Sinch Badal government was in power, Saini got all tactical and legal support to get rid of the case. Supreme Court had turned down HV decision but allowed the aggrived party to get fresh investigation. Palwinder Singh Multani brother of Balwant Singh Multani has filed the fresh FIR against Saini.

The biggest fear in the Badal family is that if Saini is taken into custody by Punjab Police, he may be forced to reveal facts of sacrilege cases. ADGP Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh is investigating the sacrilege cases. He had also interogated Parkash Singh Badal in this case.
