Farmers all set to get urea in next two days with arrival of two rakes at Nawanshahr

NAWANSHAHR:With the resumption of train services in Punjab after nearly two months, two rakes of Urea are all set to arrive at Nawanshahr in next two days to cater the needs of farmers of the district.

After a long halt, the rakes of urea fertilizer will be reaching, which would be provided to farmers, especially those preparing for the Rabi season, who were facing shortage of fertilizer for sowing wheat and other crops, like potatoes and vegetables.

Divulging in this regard, the Chief Agriculture Officer Dr. Raj Kumar pointed out that fertilizer was much needed to the farmers for sowing of their respective crops. He said that with the arrival of two rakes in a day or two, there will be no shortage of urea in the district. He said that now the trains were running, the farmers would not face any shortage of fertilizer and they should not be panicked to procure fertilizer.

He said that wheat would be sown on 77, 000 hectare area during Rabi season in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district for which 25, 000 MT of Urea would be required till March 31. He said that 17, 000 MT of Urea was already available at present in the district, which was being supplied through wholesale dealers.
He said that the cooperative societies have also been supplied with the required quantity of Urea by trucks. He said that the private dealers of the district were facing some shortage of Urea and now with the resumption of freight trains, there would be no shortage of Urea in the district.

Dr. Raj Kumar appealed to the farmers not to buy more than the required quantity as stocking could cause inconvenience to other farmers. He also said that 10, 000 MT of DAP is required for Rabi season, which is already available in sufficient quantity.
