E-auction would be carried out in all depots of Punjab Transport department to increase transparency and government revenue while disposing old & condemned buses

CHANDIGARH:Punjab Government has earned more than Rs. 26 lakh from the sale of condemned buses and scrap material in 2 depots of Punjab Roadways and PUNBUS in which 45 condemned buses were sold.

Giving the details, a spokesperson informed that E-auction has been carried out few days back for sale of buses and scrap material in 2 depots of Punjab Roadways and PUNBUS in which 25 condemned buses were sold in Amritsar-2 Depot and 20 condemned buses were sold in Ferozepur Depot.

He said that these buses have been sold at an increase of Rs. 15.28 Lakhs over the reserve price of Rs. 35.74 Lakh in Amritsar-2 Depot and an increase of Rs. 8.16 Lakhs over the reserve price of Rs.31.51 Lakhs in Ferozepur depot. “Thus buses have been sold for Rs. 90.70 Lakhs thereby registering an increase of Rs. 23.44 Lakhs over the reserve price of Rs. 67.26 in these two depots” he added. “In addition to this, other scrap material like condemned tyres, used oil and unserviceable parts have been sold for Rs. 12.19 Lakhs which is an increase of Rs. 3.12 Lakhs over the reserve price of Rs. 9.07 Lakhs” he informed.

The spokesperson further said that this is an initiative to increase transparency and increase Government revenue. It was decided in a high level meeting headed by Transport Minister Razia Sultana to carry out sale of scrap through e-bidding so as to increase participation and bring in more transparency. Bidding has been completed in 2 depots of Transport Department and will be carried out in remaining Depots in the near future which is likely to enhance revenue of the Department further.
