Dusehra bonanza for Patiala as CM to kickstart work on development projects worth Rs 1100 crore on Sunday

PATIALA:Royal city Patiala is all set to have a Dusehra gift from Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh, on October 25 as Chief Minister would kickstart the construction of development projects worth Rs 1100 during his visit to the city.

Divulging the details, Deputy Commissioner Mr. Kumar Amit said that to develop the infrastructure of Punjab’s first sports university, Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University that was made functional with makeshift arrangements on September 17, last year, a state of the art campus would come up at village Sidhuwal (Adjacent to the Rajiv Gandhi National Law University). Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh would start his day with the inauguration of the construction work of first phase of this campus whose total cost pegged at Rs 500 crore. The first phase would have Academic Block, Admin Block, Boys Hostel, Girls’ Hostel besides road development and parking etc.

The second chapter of development would be sailed with the laying of foundation stone of New Bus Stand on Rajpura Road. This project would be completed at a cost of Rs. 60.97 Crore. The new bus stand and workshop would come up on an area of 8.51 acres and it has the proposals of construction of Admin Block, Cash Branch, Bill Branch, Record Rooms, Workshop, Oil Pump, Workshop shed & Washing Greasing Dug, Lift for Movement etc.

To restore the earlier royal look of the city, a Heritage Street around Qila Mubark is also being constructed at an approximate cost of Rs 43 Crore. The street begins from Samania Gate- Hanuman Mandir- Shahi Samadhan- Gur Mandi- Bartan Bazar- Main Darwaza of Qila – Jutti Bazar- A Tank area. Development works in the two Kilometer stretch include under-grounding of electrical cables and textural façade upliftment of shops and houses, with a focus on uniform signage and heritage illumination to provide an authentic old-world charm to the street. Street furniture, Plazas with seating, pedestrian bollards, red stone cobbled streets and a laser light projection feature will also attract Patialvis and tourists alike to be a part of this heritage area. The area forms a part of the Heritage walk and will accentuate Heritage buildings like Samania Gate, Shahi Samadhan, Qila Mubarak, where upgradation work is already going on. CCTV cameras will provide security to the area.

The fourth important project, 24x7 surface water supply scheme, that would cater to the futuristic needs of the city and also known as life line of Patiala, would be set on pace by starting construction work on this historic day by the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh at Municipal Corporation office Patiala. For this project, a land measuring 24.6 acres for construction of water works has already been procured.
