PHAGWARA: In a significant move to strengthen law and order and intensify action against gangsters and criminal elements, the Director General of Police (Law and Order), Punjab, Mr. Arpit Shukla, paid a surprise visit to Phagwara on Thursday. The visit formed part of a special statewide campaign aimed at enhancing police visibility, enforcing traffic discipline, and curbing criminal and drug-related activities.
During his visit, the DGP personally inspected multiple police nakas (checkpoints) set up at key locations across the Phagwara subdivision. Accompanied by SP Phagwara Ms. Madhvi Sharma, he closely monitored the checking process and the performance of police personnel deployed on duty. He interacted with officers at the ground level and reviewed the effectiveness of the ongoing campaign to nab anti-social elements.
The DGP also conducted an on-the-spot review of the use of digital policing tools and mobile applications, including VAHAN, PAIS, and other official and social media–based platforms used by the police for verification, vehicle tracking, intelligence gathering, and public outreach. He emphasized the effective and responsible use of technology to enhance transparency, speed up verification processes, and improve coordination during field operations.
Mr. Shukla further held interactions with DSP Bharat Bhushan, Traffic In-charge Aman Kumar Daveshwar, and Station House Officers (SHOs) of all police stations under the Phagwara subdivision. He issued clear directions for strict enforcement of law, thorough checking of suspicious persons and vehicles, and professional conduct with the public, ensuring that policing remains firm yet citizen-friendly.
