DC launches awareness campaign against single use plastic

KAPURTHALA:With an aim to stop the practice of single use plastic, Deputy Commissioner Kapurthala Vishesh Sarangal on Friday launched an awareness campaign to promote the use of alternative sources instead of plastic in the district.

During a district level program organised by district administration and Punjab Pollution Control Board here at virsa Vihar, the Deputy Commissioner said, “We need to work together for environment protection following the teachings of Gurbani to ensure a safe future of our next generations”.

He informed about the negative effects of single use plastic through a comprehensive presentation besides urging school students, NGOs, government officials and employees to be part of the campaign to use jute and cloth bags instead of plastic.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner started distribution of jute bags by the district administration and Punjab Pollution Control Board to encourage people to use these bags while going to market.

Earlier, Additional Deputy Commissioner UD Anupam Keller welcomed the chief guest and others while sharing her views about the use of plastic.

On this occasion, a 10-minute documentary film was also presented by the Punjab Pollution Control Board which carries information about alternative arrangements to avoid the use of plastic.

Apart from this, students of Government School Maheru and Government High School Mansoorwal Dona gave message about saving trees through song and choreography.

It is worth mentioning here that the Punjab government has strictly banned 19 single-use plastic items including ear buds, plastic sticks for balloons, plastic flags, candy sticks, thermocups, plates, cups, glasses, forks, spoons, knives, trays etc.

Additional Deputy Commissioner ( G) Mr. Ajay Arora, SDM. Kapurthala Hardeep Singh , PCS Upinderjit Kaur Brar under training , XEN Sukhdev Singh of Punjab Pollution Control Board, SDO Ravdeep Singh and Bachanpal Singh, Deputy District Education Officer Bikramjit Singh and other officials were also present during the program.
