CHANDIGARH: The Congress Party has strongly criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab over the escalating incidents of murders, gang wars, robberies, and kidnappings across the state. The party alleged that the AAP government has failed to take law and order issues seriously, leading to growing insecurity among the people. Not just businessmen and traders, but citizens from all sections of society are living in fear.
In a joint statement, All India Congress Committee Secretary and former MLA Sukhwinder Singh Danny Bandala, retired IAS officer and MLA Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal, former MLA Sunil Dutti, and former MLA Santokh Singh Bhalaipur held the AAP government directly responsible for the worsening law and order situation and strongly condemned recent violent incidents. The leaders said that although Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann talks about eliminating gangsters, has failed to prevent rising incidents of violence and killings. They demanded that if the Chief Minister cannot maintain law and order in Punjab, he should resign from his post.
The Congress leaders also condemned the recent killing of grocery shop owner Daljit Singh in Bhullar village of Tarn Taran, as well as the shooting and robbery at a grocery store in Gurdaspur. They expressed concern that the situation in Punjab is deteriorating to levels comparable with states like Bihar. Referring to the Ludhiana wedding shootout, they said such an incident occurred for the first time in Punjab’s history, where two rival gangs opened fire at each other during a wedding, resulting in the tragic deaths of the groom’s friend and aunt on the spot. The leaders said the government must act decisively before the situation worsens any further.
