CHANDIGARH: Coming down heavily on Capt. Amarinder Singh for giving a hollow statement of challenging the High Court’s verdict in Kotkapura Police Firing incident in Supreme Court, Shiromani Akali Dal (Democratic) said that the Punjab Chief Minister’s statement is a mere hogwash and shows emptiness of Captain’s mind to understand such super sensitive legal matters.
It is pertinent to mention here that High Court had quashed the investigation that was done by SIT Chief, IG Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh in Kotkapura Police Firing case. Thereafter the State Council has given consent to High Court saying that a new Special Investigation Team (SIT) would be constituted by the Punjab Government to freshly investigate the matter in question and SIT chief Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh would not be part of the new SIT.
In an official statement issued here today, the Chief Spokespersons of the SAD (Democratic) and Former Deputy Speaker, Sh. Bir Devender Singh said that instead of understanding the seriousness of such a grave and sensitive issue Capt. Amarinder Singh is busy giving baseless, fictional statements.
“After the official statement made in the High Court, by the Advocate General the statement given by Punjab Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh to challenge High Court orders for quashing Punjab Police SIT’s investigation and removing its chief in the Supreme Court does not hold any merit, ” he said.
Ensuring the much-awaited justice for the families of the victims of the firing case, Sh. Bir Devender Singh said that the Party has taken serious cognizance of the sinister role of the office of the Advocate General and will leave no stone unturned to ensure justice to the victims.
“High Court judgment, in this case, has sent shock waves among the Sikh Community living across the globe, ” he added.
Terming Capt. Amarinder Singh’s statement baseless, Sh. Bir Devender Singh said that after the categorical statement of the Advocate General in the High Court committing on the behalf of the State Government that the state would constitute a new Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the matter fresh and he also assured the court that IG and SIT chief Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh shall not be part of the new SIT.
“It is confirmed now that the Statement given by the Advocate General is the result of the clandestine understanding between the Badal family and Capt Amarinder Singh to bury the issue of Sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib and Police firing on the innocent Sikhs, ” he asserted.
He further said that the Shiromani Akali Dal (Democratic) would like to know from the Chief Minister how could and Advocate General give such a consent in the Court without consulting the Chief Minister on such an important matter.
“If the Advocate General office has gone berserk and do not seek instruction from the Chief Minister on such important matter, then before going to the Supreme Court, he must give marching order to the Advocate General for making such a foolish statement in the Court, ” he said.
He said that making such unintelligent statements have not only destroyed the entire process of the protracted investigation expanded over six long years but has certainly shaken the faith of the people and destroyed the entire progression made in the sacrilege case.
He said that the people of Punjab would recall that before demitting office in 2017, Sardar Prakash Singh Badal had directed the Vigilance department to file closure report in two important cases of corruption that were being pursued by the State Vigilance Bureau.
