AMRITSAR: In a groundbreaking move that is likely to foster unity among Punjab's Christians, leaders from the Diocese of Amritsar (DoA), the Church of North India (CNI), and the Roman Catholic Church have pledged to reconstitute the Masihi Maha Sabha (MMS). This collaborative effort aims to address pressing issues impacting the Christian community in Punjab, besides empowering the marginalized sections and strengthening interfaith harmony.

Setting aside denominational differences, The Right Reverend Manoj Charan, Bishop, Diocese of Amritsar, Church of North India, and Acting Deputy Moderator, Church of North India, along with Roman Catholic Church representatives Father John Grewal and Father William Sahota, committed to this united initiative during a pivotal meeting. What began as a courtesy visit to greet Bishop Manoj Charan following his installation in April this year evolved into a significant discussion on critical challenges facing Punjab's Christians.

“Masihi Maha Sabha will play a vital role in dispelling misconceptions about Christianity in Punjab, particularly addressing false allegations of ‘forced conversions’ that often strain relations between communities, ” said Bishop Manoj Charan. “We are dedicated to fostering peace, protecting our community from attacks on churches, and promoting interfaith dialogue for harmonious coexistence, ” he added.

Father John Grewal emphasized, “Unity is our strength. Through Masihi Maha Sabha, we bridge denominational gaps to serve Punjab's Christians and promote harmony.” Father William Sahota added, “Together, we can dispel misconceptions, foster peace, and empower our community amidst Punjab's diverse landscape.”

Mr Daniel B Das, Secretary, Amritsar Diocesan Trust Association (ADTA), Rev Ayub Daniel, Administrator, DoA, CNI, Rev Markus Masih, Bishop’s Chaplain, Mr Om Prakash, Finance Secretary, DoA, CNI, Mr Roshan Joseph, and Mr John Kotli were also present on this occasion.
