CHANDIGARH: President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee Mr Sunil Jakhar today said that though Akali Dal’s Patron Mr Parkash Singh Badal has taken the decision to return his Padma Vibhushan out of political compulsion to cover up the biggest blunder of his political career of having supported the draconian anti-farmers law, but then also it was a welcome step.
In a statement issued here today, the President of Punjab Congress said that it will lend support to the ongoing struggle of the farmers. However, he said that it will be fruitful only if power drunk BJP government at centre takes it seriously and sincerely tries to resolve the problems of the farmers. Mr Jakhar said that ironically when these ordinances were introduced these very Akali leaders were terming it as boon for the farmers.
The President of Punjab Congress said that Mr Badal had committed the biggest blunder of his political career by supporting these anti-farmers law due to Akali Dal’s lust for power. Returning Padma Vibhushan now was an afterthought aimed at salvaging the sinking political fortunes of SAD due to supporting these laws initially and not motivated by concern for the farmers as claimed by Mr Badal in his letter to the President of India. Mr Jakhar unequivocally said that the arrogant behaviour of Union government was a huge threat to development of the country and federal structure of the country. He appealed the Union government to realise the undercurrent against the bill amongst the farmers and and roll back these black laws.
