Amritsar Municipal Corporation Removes Illegal Stalls and Benches from Heritage Street; Goods Seized
Acting on the directions of Municipal Commissioner Bikramjit Singh Shergill and under the supervision of Additional Municipal Commissioner Dr. Jai Inder Singh, the Estate Wing of the Amritsar Municipal Corporation conducted a special anti-encroachment drive on Heritage Street and in the areas surrounding Sri Harmandir Sahib (Sri Darbar Sahib).
AMRITSAR: Acting on the directions of Municipal Commissioner Bikramjit Singh Shergill and under the supervision of Additional Municipal Commissioner Dr. Jai Inder Singh, the Estate Wing of the Amritsar Municipal Corporation conducted a special anti-encroachment drive on Heritage Street and in the areas surrounding Sri Harmandir Sahib (Sri Darbar Sahib).
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Sushant Bhatia, Secretary-cum-Estate Officer, and Dharminder Jeet Singh, Estate Officer. During the drive, illegally installed stalls, benches and other encroachments occupying public footpaths and spaces were removed, and the materials found at the site were seized. In addition, an illegal kiosk at Haripura was also removed.
The drive was successfully executed by the Estate Wing with the assistance of Inspector Preeti Chauhan, Inspector Aman, and other enforcement staff.
Municipal Commissioner Bikramjit Singh Shergill said that Heritage Street is one of the city's most important religious and tourist destinations and will be kept completely free from encroachments. He emphasized that public footpaths are meant exclusively for pedestrians and that no commercial activity or unauthorized occupation will be permitted on them.
He further stated that the Municipal Corporation had already issued repeated advisories to shopkeepers, street vendors and the general public against encroaching upon Heritage Street and public footpaths. However, due to continued violations by some individuals, the Corporation was compelled to initiate strict enforcement action.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Dr. Jai Inder Singh said that such drives will continue on a regular basis to ensure the convenience and safety of pedestrians, maintain cleanliness, and preserve the dignity and aesthetic appeal of the Heritage Zone.
The Amritsar Municipal Corporation has warned that any individual or organization found re-encroaching upon Heritage Street or the areas surrounding Sri Harmandir Sahib in the future will face strict legal action, including removal of the encroachment, seizure of goods, and other proceedings as per law.
The Municipal Corporation has appealed to all shopkeepers, street vendors and citizens to cooperate with the administration and play their part in keeping Heritage Street and all public footpaths free from encroachments.
