1933 vaccine doses provided at tehsil level to prevent lumpy skin disease

KAPURTHALA:Deputy Commissioner Kapurthala Vishesh Sarangal has said that 1933 vaccine doses provided by the Punjab government have been supplied at the tehsil level for the prevention of lumpy skin disease found in animals, especially in cows. Apart from this, 15 special teams have also been deployed in the field for vaccination of animals in the district.

Today, while reviewing the efforts being made to prevent the disease with the officials of the animal husbandry department, Deputy Commissioner said that the situation is completely under control and people should not panic at all.

He said that the teams of veterinary doctors were visiting the villages and milk dairies for vaccination of the animals. He also asked the Animal Husbandry Department to make the farmers aware about the symptoms of this disease and basic efforts for prevention etc.

It may be mentioned here that according to the data of animal husbandry department, there are 72682 cows in the district, out of which 737 cases of lumpy skin have been reported. Out of the reported cases, 212 cows have completely recovered from disease while 525 are under treatment.

Mr. Gursharanjit Singh, Deputy Director informed that 36 samples were taken from lumpy skin affected animals which were already sent to NDDL Jalandhar for further testing.

He also made it clear that the disease spread through flies and mosquitoes, so if any animal shows symptoms of this disease, it should be isolated from other animals.

He also said that this disease does not spread from animals to humans, due to which the milk of affected animals can also be used after boiling
