NAKODAR: With the 100% lifting of paddy and 98% payments to the farmers within the designated time of 72 hours and 48-hours respectively, the district administration has been ensuring smooth and hassle-free paddy procurement season 2020-2021.
As per the details during the Kharif Marketing Season 2019-2020, the procurement agencies had procured 430950 metric ton of paddy whereas till October 23rd this year the agencies have already procured 589607 metric ton of paddy.
In the last 72-hours in Jalandhar, the procurement agencies had procured 459907 metric ton of paddy in last 72-hours by the various agencies and the same has been lifted from the grain markets
Divulging more details, the Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori reiterated that on the directions of the state government, the district administration was firmly committed to completing the procurement and lifting without any inconvenience to the farmers. He said that along with on-spot procurement of the grains, the thrust had also been laid on timely payment to farmers within 48 hours.
He said that many agencies had also made almost hundred per cent payments to the farmers of the paddy procured, within 48-hours as out of payments worth Rs 946.93 crore, Rs 924.73 crore had been paid to the farmers for their produce.
He said that the procurement agencies had been directed to ensure prompt payment to the farmers within 48-hours and ensure that lifting of the grains within 72 hours of procurement as per the policy of the state government.
He said that the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh was committed to lifting every single grain of the farmers in the mandis.
Thori said that a robust mechanism has been put in place to make sure that grain was procured and lifted as soon as it comes into the mandis.
