JALANDHAR:The Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare department on Thursday organized a sensitization seminar on wheat cultivation in Adraman village of district.
More than 60 farmers attended the camp in which the department sensitized them to sow the wheat seed after treatment with chlorpyrifos and Bitabax chemicals.
The Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Nazar Singh said that there is need of 4 ML chlorpyrifos for per one-kg wheat seed and 2.5gm Bitabax for per one-kg seed. He said that the farmers must treat wheat seeds with these two chemicals before sowing as these will save the crop from various diseases and termites.
Meanwhile, the farmers were also taken to the fields where the wheat crop was sown with the help of a super seeder machine 20-days ago. The farmers were satisfied with the growth of the crop in the fields.
He said that the rent for this machine being charged by the custom hiring center is Rs 2000 per acre and in conventional methods of wheat sowing, the cost usually incurs Rs 6000 per acre and farmers can save RS 4000 per acre directly by using this machine.
He said that the cost of this machine is about 2.15 lakh and 50 percent subsidy is being offered to individual farmers and 80 percent subsidy to the farmers’ groups.
Dr Nazar Singh also asked the farmer to avail the benefit of wheat seed subsidy by applying to the concerned block agriculture officer and told Rs 1000 per quintal subsidy on the wheat seed is being offered under the National Food Security Mission.
