KAPURTHALA:Punjab Cabinet Minister for Local Bodies Inderbir Singh Nijjer today said that Punjab Government would vacate the Panchayat land of about one acre from the alleged illegal possession of renowned Lovely Professional University owned by AAP Rajya Sabha Member Ashok Mittal .
Addressing a press conference here today after presiding over a meeting of district officers in the district administrative complex , The Minister said that Punjab government would not spare any one in the anti-encroachment drive launched by the state government to evacuate panchayat land from the illegal possession of politicians or land mafia.
It is pertinent to mention here that congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira Chairman All India Kissan Congress and Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja warring highlighted the issue in the media today and dared the State Government to vacate the panchayat land from the alleged illegal possession of LPU falling in village Hardaspur near Phagwara.
Replying to another question regarding the appointment of AAP Rajya Sabha member Raghav Chadda as Chairman advisory committee of Punjab , The Minister said he was neither in favour nor against in the appointment of Raghav Chadda as Chairman of advisory committee to supersede the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to run the parallel government and it was the decision of the party on his appointment. However he refused to comment further on the issue of verbal dual between the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Raghav Chadda on the issue of the appointment of new Advocate Genreral recently.
The Minister said government is concerned to solve the problem of water, sewerage blockade and garbage problems in the cities of Punjab .
He disclosed that government had prepared a plan to augment the drinking water supply in the 31 cities in Punjab with the help of canal water supply after its treatment and further preparing a plan to cover 87 more cities and towns to supply drinking water with its help . He expressed serious concern that ground water is fast depleting in the Punjab and government was making all out efforts to raise the water table after recharging the ground water.
The Minister had a tough time when a reporter drawn his attention on the arrest of a AAP volunteer in a drug trafficking case by Kapurthala police yesterday. When AAP Punjab General Secretary Gurpal Singh Indian supported the reporter on the issue that AAP volunteer was often seen with a local AAP leader and remained office incharge , The minister said no body would be spared involved in the drug racket.
Replying to another question regarding mushrooming of illegal commercial constructions in the city , The Minister directed Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal who is also officiating Commissioner of Corporation to remove the illegal constructions and take strict action against the violators .
He said that new commissioner of kapurthala corporation will be appointed soon.
Earlier the Minister addressed a meeting of district officers and directed them to complete the on going development project .
