Patiala police unearth illegal weapon supplier gang

PATIALA: Patiala Police, in a major operation, has exposed a gang operating in supply of illegal weapons from other states to Punjab. Three suspects have been arrested with two 9 MM Pistols, One Revolver and three magazines of 9 MM pistol.
Disclosing this, her, today, Mr. Vikram Jeet Duggal, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police, Patiala said that following a tip off, a police party of Rajpura Sadar Police Station that was on patrolling on GT Road Rajpura near Jashan Hotel, intercepted two suspected personssitting near Naugaja Peer, on GT Road. Both were identified as Sorav Kumar son of Kirshan Chand, a resident of House No. 94, B R Ambedkar Colony, Gilwani Gate, Amritsar and Mithun Kumar son of Mohinder Shah, resident of Arsar, Jamuri Police Station, District Jamui, Bihar, currently residing at Pakha High School, Majitha Road, Amritsar, near 88 Foot Road. During the search of Sorav Kumar, a magazine with a 9mm pistol was recovered and 02 magazines with a 9mm pistol were recovered from Mithun Kumar. Both of them work together to supply illicit arms. These illicit arms were procured from a resident of Bihar for selling to Anmol alias Sammy, son of Raju, a resident of Sangatpur Road, Amritsar.
After registering an FIR No. 24 dated 11/03/2021 undeer section 25/54/59 of Ammunition Act, further investigation handed over to the CIA Incharge Rahul Kashal under rthe supervision of SP (Investigation) Harmeet Singh Hundal and DSP (I) Kirshan Kumar Panthe, further said SSP Mr Duggal. A team of CIA Staff Patiala and SHO, Police Station, Gurpreet Singh formed to conduct, in depth investigation of the case. Basis on the results of interrogation of both suspects, a .32-bore revolver was recovered from a park near Gilwani Chowk on March 14 during interrogation of Sunny alias Sammy.
SSP Duggal further said that the interrogation of Sorav Kumar, Mithun Kumar and Sunny alias Sammy also revealed that they were acquainted with one, Prince son of Shinda, a resident of Gilwani Gate, Amritsar who was recently released on bail in an NDPS case registered at Police Station, City Gurdaspur. He would also be questioned, he added. The detainees are being questioned in depth about the purpose, for which the ammunition was brought and the person from whom the ammunition was brought, is also being questioned soon.
