Capt. Manjinder Singh Bhinder's 25th death anniversary on June 13

GURDASPUR: Capt. Manjinder Singh Bhinder, the promising son of Capt. Vardeep Singh, unselfishly saved the lives of 150 people at the Uphaar Cinema Delhi in 1997.

He and his 4-year-old son Prabhsimran Singh and wife Jyot Saroop Kaur were also killed.
In memory of Capt. Manjinder Singh, a stadium at Udho Nangal Government School and a gate at his native village Mehta Chowk were constructed by the then government. It may be recalled that Capt. Manjinder Singh's mother Gurnam Kaur and Capt. Vardeep Singh also passed away in the year 2020.

Captain Manjinder Singh's 3 sisters Sukhminder Kaur District Ayurvedic Officer Gurdaspur (Batala), Gursinder Kaur Chandigarh and Pritpal Kaur are living in Muscat.
Captain's sister District Ayurvedic Officer Sukhminder Kaur said that the anniversary would be celebrated tomorrow (June 13) and a function would be held in his memory.
It may be mentioned here that the Upahar Agni incident, one of the worst fire tragedies in recent Indian history, took place on Friday, June 13, 1997 at the Upahar Cinema in Green Park, Delhi during the screening of the film Border from 3 to 6 pm. Trapped inside, 59 people died, mostly from suffocation, and many more were injured in the stampede.
