LUDHIANA: Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar said that there is abundance of food grains in our country and it is a result of the research of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), the toil of farmers and the agricultural policies of the government.
We need to do more work in the field of pulses, oilseeds and horticulture crops. New policy will be introduced for self-reliance in pulses and oilseeds.
Tomar said this in the program of ICAR achievements, publications, new agricultural technologies and new varieties of agricultural crops and award distribution to the winners of "Gratitude" (KRITAGYA) Hackathon. In "Gratitude", the contestants have proved their ability and ability by creating more than one useful infrastructure for agriculture and allied sectors.
Tomar said that ICAR is doing important service through sero-monitoring to make the country's animals free from foot-and-mouth disease (FMD). There is a need to accelerate this further. Agricultural education is an important aspect through which we have to make overall development of the agricultural sector.
The objective of the event was to promote possible technology solutions to increase mechanization in farming, with special emphasis on women-friendly equipment. The team of Jayalalitha Fisheries University, Tamil Nadu got this award for semi-automatic cutter, which cut dry fish. National Equine Research Center, Hisar awarded for Monoclonal antibody-based ELISA kit for horse flu by Animal Science Division.
The Central Buffalo Research Center, Hisar has developed a kit called Preg-D to test the urine of dairy animals. With this kit pregnancy of animal can be tested in 30 minutes in just cost of 10 rupees. Fisheries Division has developed a technology for making biodegradable packaging film (bioplastic) which is very cost effective.
Minister of State for Agriculture Shri Parshottam Rupala, Director General of ICAR, Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Special Secretary Mr. Sanjay Singh, Deputy Director General (Education) Dr. R.C. Aggarwal also addressed.
Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU said that the new technologies and innovations are a boon for agriculture and animal husbandry. He appreciated the efforts of ICAR to acknowledge the scientists of different researches and innovations.
