Three out of 5 Punjabis held captive in Colombia escape from embassy custody again - Dhaliwal

AMRITSAR: Cabinet Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs, Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, said that three out of the five youths held captive in Colombia, who were taken into custody by the local embassy after a video went viral, have again escaped by forming ties with their agents.

Talking to reporters at Ajnala today, Dhaliwal said that after receiving information about the said Punjabis, the Punjab government, with the help of the Ministry of External Affairs, contacted the Indian Embassy in Colombia and requested for help for these youths.

Taking action on which, the local embassy took the five youths under its protection within a few hours and lodged them in a hostel

While arrangements were being made to send them back to Punjab, three of these youths, Karandeep Singh, Gurnam Singh and Ramandeep Singh, contacted their India-based agent on the phone and then left without informing anyone.

While the other two youths are ready to return. They appealed to the youths and Punjabi parents not to send their children abroad through such treacherous routes which are very dangerous. They said that the money these people spend trying to go abroad can be used to create employment here.
