KOLKATA: At least three people lost their lives, and ten others were injured in a head-on collision between a speeding four-wheeler and an auto rickshaw loaded with passengers on Wednesday in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district.
The horrific road accident took place on the Basanti Highway in the Minakhan police station area of Basirhat subdivision of the district.
The accident took place right in front of the Minakhan Gram Panchayat office, the police said.
At least 10 other passengers who were seriously injured in the incident are battling for their lives in the hospital.
Regarding the incident, one of the injured passengers of the auto-rickshaw involved in the accident, Laxman Mondal, told local media persons that the auto-rickshaw was coming from Malancha towards Kolkata with several passengers. At that time, a speeding four-wheeler, which was on its way back from Kolkata, suddenly lost control in front of the Minakhan Gram Panchayat office and hit the auto head-on. In this head-on collision, the auto was tossed on the side of the road.
