CHANDIGARH: The University Institute of Fashion Technology & Vocational Development (UIFT&VD), Panjab University, hosted its Annual Design Collection Show and Trunk Display — Shears and Ruban 2025. This signature event celebrated the innovative spirit and design excellence of B.Sc. (6th Semester) students, providing a platform to exhibit the culmination of their academic and creative journey.
The event commenced with a two-minute silence in memory of the Pahalgam victims. The atmosphere was subdued, reflecting the nation's collective grief and shock over the tragic incident. Despite the sombre mood, the show proceeded as it was an essential component of the course's academic requirements.
Prof. Prabhdip Brar, Chairperson of UIFT&VD and Coordinator of the event, along with the dedicated team, graciously welcomed the esteemed Chief Guest, Prof. Yojna Rawat, Dean University Instructions, Panjab University, and the Guest of Honour, Prof. Nandita Singh, Department of Education.
This year, the students have drawn deep inspiration from emotional journeys marked by pain, love, and crisis; the urgent call for sustainability in the face of climate change; and the evolving reinterpretation of traditional artisanal crafts through a contemporary lens.
Harshaan’s collection ‘Mahamooni’ explored the textures and motifs of Persian Kilim rugs through bold experimentation. In ‘Strands of Hope’, Kanita poignantly captured the emotional experiences of cancer patients. Nupur’s ‘Mayim Chaim’ (Hebrew for “Living Waters”) captured a story of personal and material transformation, employing sustainable design techniques to reflect renewal and growth.
Meanwhile, Sohani integrated the principles of bio-mimicry and regenerative sourcing in her collection, presenting a visionary take on nature-inspired fashion.
Together, these collections not only showcased technical and artistic excellence but also highlight the evolving role of fashion as a medium for social commentary, innovation, and healing.
A total of 7 awards were presented to the winning collections, whose evaluation by jury members was done a few days ago.
