Paddy procurement going on smoothly despite Covid pandemim: Vikramjit Chaudhary

GORAYA/PHILLAUR: Like the Punjab Government had successfully purchased every grain of wheat despite COVID-19 pandemic, the government has again made all the necessary arrangements for the paddy procurement season and entire harvest would be purchased from the farmers, said former Punjab Youth Congress President and Phillaur assembly constituency incharge Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary during his visit to Goraya grain market to take stock of procurement preparations.

On this occasion, he also inaugurated a new parking lot built at a cost of Rs 35 lakh at the market and dedicated it to Shaheed Bhagat Singh on his birth anniversary. He said that Shaheed Bhagat Singh had fought against British government for India’s freedom; similarly, Captain Amarinder Singh led Congress government stands with farmers and would make every effort for withdrawal of the anti-farmer bills to ensure their freedom from the clutches of corporates and crony capitalists.

During the visit, Vikramjit Chaudhary met the officials of the market committee and administration and asked them to ensure that no farmer faces any problem in the mandi.

He said the Punjab Government has made elaborate arrangements to procure expected arrival of 170 lakh metric tonnes of paddy at 4035 procurement centres in Punjab.

He further said that in wake of the COVID-19 threat, the arrangements have been made for hand washing and sanitization at every mandi. He instructed everyone to follow social distancing norms, avoid crowding and wear face masks in grain markets.

Later, Vikramjit Chaudhary visited village Mansurpur where Sarpanch and panchayat joined the Congress party. He welcomed Sarpanch Meena Kumari, former Sarpanchs Balbir Kaur and Sarbjeet Kaur, panchayat members Baljinder Kumar, Sheetal Ram, Vimla and Paramjit Kaur, and Yashpal to the party and said that their arrival would strengthen the organization at grassroot level.

Naib Tehsildar Sahib Dayal, Goraya Market Committee Chairman Dara Singh Boparai, Goraya Municipal Council President Kamaldeep Singh Bittu, Rurka Kalan Block Congress President Rakesh Duggal, Goraya City Congress President Manish Jain, Goraya City Congress Vice President Sanjay Atwal, senior Congress leader Ram Lubhaya Punj, EO Goraya Randhir Singh, Market Committee Goraya members Rana Nachhattar and Satnam Gohawar, Goraya Municipal Councillors Baljinder Pahwa, Sukhraj Kaur, Jaswinder Chinta, Rajeev Punj, Raushan Lal Bittu and Jiwan Das, Goraya Arhtiya Association Chairman Sukhdev Chhabra, and Harjivan Jain were among those present in Goraya mandi.--
