AMRITSAR: Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Amritsar Division Deepak Sharma intimated the press that Department of Posts is going to celebrate “National Postal week” from 9th October, 2023 to 13th October, 2023.
National Postal week commences with World Post Day on 9th October every year which is the anniversary of the establishment of Universal Postal Union on 9th October, 1874. This year the theme for the World Post Day is “Together for Trust”
Sharma informed the press that various activities had been planned by Amritsar Division throughout the National Postal Week.
10th October, 2023 will be celebrated as Vittiya Sashaktikaran Diwas and on this day Dak Choupal (Dak Community Development Program) will be organized by each Sub Division in Amritsar Division. Dak Choupal is a comprehensive community program through which different Postal Services will be provided to the Public in a single camp. In the Dak Choupal, public will be facilitated for opening Saving Bank Accounts, Sukanya Samriddhi Accounts, Mahila Samman Certificates, procuring Postal Life Insurance policies and for Aadhar Enrolment and Updation. All these facilities and services will be provided under one umbrella in a rural/remote area.
11th October, 2023 will be celebrated as Philately Day and seminars & quiz activities will be organized at schools on the theme “Digital India for New India.”
12th October, 2023 will be celebrated as Mails & Parcel Day. Customer Meets for Bulk & Retail customers will be organized in all prominent cities of Punjab State and UT Chandigarh and Customer meet for Bulk & Retail customers will also be organized in Amritsar also. Customers will be informed about the new initiatives taken under various Parcel & Mail services of the Department. They will be apprised of various facilities of Parcel Tracker for bulk customers viz. End to End tracking, Expected date of delivery, Return Pick up, COD facility, Click and book service, OTP based delivery etc.
13th October, 2023 will be celebrated as “Antyodaya Diwas”. Awareness camps will be organized in rural/remote areas & also in urban slums for Aadhaar enrollment & updation. People will also be made aware about various Social Security Schemes like Jan Suraksha Schemes, Aadhaar Enabled Payment Service, Social Security Pension, Direct Benefit Transfer etc.
Deepak Sharma also intimated that Amritsar Division was continuously taking various steps for making its mark in the socio-economic development of the country. To provide uninterrupted & reliable Mail Services to the Department, 05 mail vehicles have been arranged in Amritsar Division and a comprehensive Road Transport Network had been developed throughout Punjab and Chandigarh with 83 Mail Vehicles plying day and night within Punjab & connecting Punjab with Delhi, Haryana & HP. For conveyance of International Articles booked in Post Offices of Punjab and Chandigarh, a daily special Mail Vehicle has been started from Ludhiana to Delhi Foreign Post. As a result of these initiatives, revenue from International Articles in Punjab Circle has shown a handsome growth of 67% which is probably the highest in the country. Attractive packaging facilities for national & international articles have been provided in many Post Offices of Punjab and Chandigarh as per Public demand.
During Rakhi season, Punjab Postal Circle designed & supplied special Rakhi envelopes & boxes for safe and secure transmission of Rakhis in India and abroad. As a result of this initiative, more than 16000 Rakhi envelopes & boxes were sold in Amritsar Division and more than 1.35 lakh Rakhi envelopes & boxes were sold in Punjab Circle and the Circle earned an additional revenue of around 6 crore from the booking of Rakhi mail. Also special arrangements were made by the Circle for expeditious delivery of Rakhi throughout Punjab and Chandigarh.
He also informed the Press that 498 Aadhaar Centers have been set up in Post Offices of Punjab and Chandigarh for Aadhaar enrolment and updation and around 7000 aadhar transactions (new/updation) are being done per month in Amritsar Division. 22 Dak Niryat Kendras have been set up to provide single window facility to exporters to book their articles and to complete all formalities from a single counter in the Post Office out of which 02 Dak Niryat Kendras have been set up in Amritsar and Tarntaran. Also 09 Post Office Passport Sewa Kendras have been established & more than 51000 passport applications had been processed within a period of 5 months i.e. April 2023 to August 2023. He intimated with pride that during the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign in August, 2023 Amritsar Division distributed 27000 flags and Punjab Postal Circle distributed 2.5 lakh flags in Punjab and Chandigarh. Amritsar Division has around 660000 live POSB accounts out of which 65778 are Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana Accounts, 4297 Postal Life Insurance Policies & 2289 Rural Postal Life Insurance policies and Punjab Postal Circle has around 68 lakh live POSB accounts out of which 7.37 lakh are Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana Accounts, 1.02 lakh Postal Life Insurance Policies & 3.34 lakh Rural Postal Life Insurance policies.
Deepak Sharma said that in this modern era, postal facilities are not limited to mail services but India Post is touching each & every aspect of the citizens’ lives. Post Office has proudly emerged as a single stop solution for all types of needs & requirements of the public and as a disbursement channel for DBT & Social Security schemes of the Government.heart attack on October one.
