Advocate Dhami takes strict notice of forcing Gursikh students to remove their karas in the JEE Mains examination

AMRITSAR: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has taken strict notice and ordered an investigation in the case of Sikh students taking off their Karras {iron bracelet} and putting tape on the collars during the JEE Mains paper conducted by the National Testing Agency at Mohali on April 6.

Along with the investigation in this regard, Advocate Dhami has also written a letter to the Chairman of the National Testing Agenc, to express his strong objection to this discrimination against the Sikh candidates.

Giving information about this matter, Pratap Singh said that a Sikh examinee has brought to the notice of the organization that his date was the JEE Mains paper conducted by the National Testing Agency at a private center in Mohali on April 6.

He said that according to the Sikh examinee, the staff of the paper center asked him to forcibly remove the karra which is not acceptable and is a violation of the country's constitution. He said that when the Sikh examinee protested against this coercion, he was allowed to sit in the paper only after taping his wrist.

S. Pratap Singh said that the discrimination done by the paper centers against the Sikh examinees is hurting their mentality. He said that before the paper, the behavior of the staff members of the concerned agencies with the Sikh examinees affects their mentality, which also affects the performance in the paper. He said that Kada is one of the five karas of Sikhs and it is an important part of Sikh identity, fundamental rights, which cannot be separated from the body of a Sikh.

S. Pratap Singh said that according to the order of Shiromani Committee President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, the Deputy Secretary at Chandigarh sub-office regarding the investigation of this matter. Lakhveer Singh, Pracharak S. Rajpal Singh and author I.T. Department Jaskaran Singh's duty has been imposed. He said that the National Testing Agency will also express strong objection regarding this incident and further action will be taken according to the report received.
