CHANDIGARH: The adhocism in Punjab’s power sector continues as the state government has failed to fill the posts of four Directors in PSPCL and PSTCL besides non filling of post of Member PSERC and Member (Power) BBMB.
Before the start of paddy season, on June 2 this year Director distribution, Director commercial, in PSPCL and Director technical in PSTCL were granted 4 months extensions. The state government failed to complete the selection process in time.Now once again the Directors have been given two months extensions in October this year. The post of Director administration is also lying vacant in PSPCL.

Chairman PSPCL is completing his term in December and the selection process has not yet been started.The advertisement for the post of Member in PSERC was issued in May 2022 and the Punjab government has again failed here to fill the post in last five months.
PSEB Engineers Association has written to chief minister claiming that this uncertainty in the state power sector is effecting the efficiency of PSPCLand PSTCL.
The post of Member Irrigation BBMB is lying vacant since September 09, 2020 and the post of member Power BBMB is now vacant since September 26 this year At present only the post of chairman BBMB is functional while the two whole time posts of Member Power and Member Irrigation are lying vacant.V K Gupta Spokesperson of All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) has written to union power minister seeking immediate filling up of these two posts vital for Punjab and Haryana.
The post of Chairperson APTEL became vacant on August 13 last year and the post of Chairman CERC has fallen vacant on June 12 this year and both these posts are still lying vacant. AIPEF in another letter letter to union power minister has urged him to fill these topmost posts in power sector immediately as it violates section 77 of Electricity Act 2003.The central government has no jurisdiction to violate specific sections
of the Electricity Act 2003 and the exercise for amendment cannot and must not overrule the existing statute.
