Punjab Agriculture department opens call center for farmers

CHANDIGARH: To educate the farmers across the state from the attack of yellow rust on the wheat, the state Agriculture Department has set up a call center to provide relevant information to the farmers to combat the menace of yellow rust thus saving their precious wheat crop from this deadly disease.

Giving details, the Director Agriculture said here today that the department has opened a Kissan Call Centre and any farmer keen for seeking information in this regard could call on this toll free number i.e. 1800-180-1551 from 6AM to 10 PM to tackle the problem of yellow rust. Agriculture experts and farm research scientists would be available during the stipulated schedule to keep the farmers abreast with the necessary precautions to be taken for the protection of their crop from the attack of yellow rust at early stage.

It has come to the notice that yellow rust has attacked wheat crop in some parts in Ropar District. In order to take requisite precautions, the agriculture department has appealed to the farmers to inspect their fields twice a week. If anyone finds fungal infection in the form of yellow stripes on leaves or crop turns turmeric yellow, in such case he should immediately inform the agriculture department. After that they should apply the fungicide sprays as recommended by the experts of the Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana.

It may be mentioned here that experts of Punjab Agriculture University Ludhiana have conducted a survey recently and suggested to apply fungicides such as Tilt 25 EC or Shine 25 EC or Bumper 25 EC or Compas 25 EC or Stilt 25 EC or Markzole 25 EC@200 ml in 200 litres of water per acre.
