CHANDIGARH:Expressing grave concern on spreading of misconceptions regarding COVID-19, Senior Vice Chairman of Punjab Youth Development Board Mr. Prince Khullar today stressed on comprehensive social media campaign to remove the growing stigma and discrimination associated with the patients.

While thanking Chief Minister Punjab for directing DGP to register cases against rumour-mongers spreading misconceptions about disease and floating/circulating false and misleading videos, which are hampering fight against Coronavirus, he said that it is necessary that reliable and accurate information regarding COVID-19 should be provided to all positive patients so that they may not fall prey to misinformation and their morale could be boosted for their early recovery. He said that this campaign would provide relief to the patients, who are suffering from mental agony along with COVID-19. He said that rumours are being circulated by some miscreants and people should not believe in such rumours and strict action would be taken against them. He also expressed sympathy with the Corona warriors, who laid down their lives while fighting against this pandemic.

In a press communiqué issued here, the Senior Vice Chairman said that the public in general should be made aware to use precautionary measures. While appealing to follow health protocols in letter and spirit, he said that various researches have shown that taking basic precautions such as wearing masks, washing hands frequently and maintaining social distancing are quite effective in stopping the spread. But seeing the number of fatalities in other countries due to COVID-19, people got into a panic and a fear psychosis has been created in their minds, which is a stumbling block in controlling this disease.

Mr. Khullar said that the entire world including India and the state of Punjab is battling against the curse of COVID-19 pandemic and we are going through perilous times. If any rumour-monger is found misleading the people about Corona or claiming to make Corona medicine then people should immediately inform the health or police department so that strict action can be taken against perpetrators.
