CHANDIGARH: Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh while presiding over the culmination session of the two-day Nursing Workshop and Principals’ Meet held at Zirakpur on Thursday, said that there is need to strengthen the Nursing Education by enhancing the standards of Education.
Terming the Nursing Profession as an important part of the medical profession, he said that Nurses also have a coveted role in curing the indoor patients as the Doctors have. Clinical duties should be performed with a missionary zeal that could be part of the Examination and Evaluation of the course.
He said that Nursing Education is the backbone of the medical profession and there are hundreds of examples where Nurses worked tirelessly to save the people in exigencies.
He said that Punjab has over 250 Nursing Colleges that train thousands of nursing students annually. "We should focus on their theoretical as well as practical training a little bit more by overcoming the challenges if any, " he said.
The two-day workshop was convened by the Punjab Nurses Registration Council (PNRC) under the aegis of the Department of Medical Education and Research, Punjab.
The theme of this conference was “Empowering Nursing Leaders- Current Issues and Challenges”. About 250 Principals of Nursing Schools and Colleges along with Civil Surgeons, Deputy Medical Commissioners (DMCs) and
Nursing Superintendents (Matrons) of 23 Districts of Punjab, participated in this workshop.
Panel discussions on Challenges specific to nursing students in Punjab State, Clinical training of students in District Hospitals- Challenges and solutions, Counselling for GNM & ANM Admissions 2024-25 and Evaluation of Students in Exams- Theory and Clinical were among the major activities.
Training & Discussion on Online Evaluation System and Affiliation, Motivational Lecture: Winning the battle of the Mind Avoiding Overthinking, Emotional Intelligence, People Skills, Maximising the potential, Minimising fear and worry and Finding Success Within, Lecture: Evidence Based Nursing: Myth or Reality were among the other parts of the workshop.
