PM Narender Modi dedicates 300 bedded satellite center of PGIMER in Sangrur to the nation

SANGRUR: Prime Minister, Narendra Modi today dedicated 300 bedded Satellite Centre of PGIMER in Sangrur, to the nation. marking a significant milestone and fruition of continued endeavour of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India to provide top-notch, affordable and accessible healthcare services to the residents of the state of Punjab.

The  Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for the 100 bedded Satellite Centre of PGIMER at Ferozepur, further reinforcing the commitment to providing accessible and quality healthcare services to the citizens of Punjab on this momentous occasion today.

The august ceremony witnessed the presence of esteemed dignitaries, government officials, healthcare professionals, and local representatives, all joining hands to celebrate this commendable initiative. Those present on the occasion included Mr. Simranjit Singh Mann MP Sangrur, Mr. Arvind Khanna Senior Vice President BJP Punjab Unit, Sh. Dharminder Singh Dhullat, President BJP leader Sangrur, Sh. Vijendra Singla Ex MP, Sangrur, Sh. Jitender Jorwal (IAS) DC Sangrur, Sh. Charanjot Singh (PCS) SDM, Sangrur, Ms. Adarsh Pal Kaur DHS Punjab, Dr. Kirpal Singh Civil Surgeon Sangrur.

Expressing his gratification on this historic occasion, Prof. Vivek Lal, Director PGIMER stated, “Today, it’s a red-letter day in the annals of PGI and in the history of Punjab. We feel extremely grateful to the Hon’ble Prime Minister for this hugely laudable initiative in healthcare infrastructure for the state of Punjab. The establishment of PGIMER’s Satellite Centres of Sangrur and Ferozepur underscores the unwavering commitment of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India, under the visionary leadership of Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Shri Mansukh Mandaviya, to bolstering healthcare infrastructure and extending advanced medical facilities to every corner, ensuring equitable healthcare access for all here in the state of Punjab.”

The Director PGIMER further elaborated, “In view of PGIMER’s prominence as a centre of excellence in the region, the patient load at the institute has been constantly rising in the past decades to the present levels. The emergency and routine services are over-burdened to cope with the patient load. Secondly, families have to travel long distances to avail services at PGIMER. Thus, it became imperative that newer outreach models of service to the public be explored. PGI Satellite Centres of Sangrur and Ferozepur in the state of Punjab are significant milestones and align with the vision of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India to correct imbalances in the availability of comprehensive, affordable, quality and holistic tertiary care health services to the people of Punjab and adjoining states.”

“These Satellite Centers under the aegis of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India will have state-of-the-art facilities and will serve as beacons of hope, healing, and progress for the communities they serve. These Satellite Centres will also reach out to the underserved population in the far-flung areas through community outreach activities and by leveraging Digital health care infrastructure.”

PGIMER’s Satellite Centre at Sangrur, with its 300-bed capacity, is poised to cater to the healthcare needs of the surrounding communities, offering a wide range of medical services and specialties. Similarly, the foundation stone laying for the Ferozepur Satellite Centre lays the groundwork for future healthcare excellence in the region, promising enhanced medical care and facilities, ” stated Director PGIMER Chandigarh.

Satellite Centre of PGIMER in Sangrur Punjab, constructed with a project cost of Rs.449 Crores and sprawling across 25 acres of land, is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to cater to the healthcare needs of the populace. With a capacity of 300 beds, the Satellite Centre aims to alleviate the burden on the main PGI institution and enhance accessibility to quality medical care for patients.

Among its key features are 300 beds, five large and two small operation theatres, Intensive Care Units (ICU) wards, emergency services, In-Patient Department (IPD) services, telemedicine centre, and a host of other cutting-edge amenities leveraging the latest technologies. The foundation stone for this hospital was laid in 2013, and its construction was completed in two phases, demonstrating the Govt. of India’s commitment to bolstering healthcare infrastructure.

Since its soft launch, Satellite Centre of PGIMER in Sangrur Punjab has already made a significant impact, with over 3, 61, 127 patients availing themselves of outpatient department (OPD) services across various specialties as of December 2023 and additionally, a total of 269 major and minor surgeries successfully performed.

Highlighting the diagnostic capabilities of the Satellite Centre, it is noteworthy that 19, 297 tests were conducted in the year 2023 alone, underscoring its pivotal role in providing comprehensive medical care. Furthermore, the radiology department has conducted 12, 574 X-rays and ultrasounds, further accentuating the centre’s commitment to delivering holistic healthcare solutions.
