LUDHIANA: Taking cognizance of derogatory comments against Veterinarians by former Union Minister Maneka Gandhi in an article by her published in a hindi daily " Parbhat Khabar", Senior Vets Association, in its emergency meeting held here today, strongly condemned her for demoralizing the profession.
Prominent among others present in the meeting were former Joint Director Animal Husbandry Punjab and member Punjab State Veterinary Council Dr Gurinder Singh Walia, former Registrar Punjab Veterinary Council Dr Baljit Singh Ghuman, Principal Veterinary Polytechnic Dr Bimal Sharma, Deputy Directors(Retd) Dr Nitin Gupta, Dr Raghunandan Sharma, Dr Rajinder Kumar Wasdev and Dr Nirmaljit Mahal.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Walia said that a uneducated, unaware and irresponsible person could make such disgusting and uncalled for comments about Veterinarians and their profession but such comments coming from a person who once held responsible positions in government, is very much unfortunate, disgusting and unwarranted and reflects frustration of a person. No profession is superior or inferior, hence discussing about a profession in an insulting and derogatory way and making generalized statement about anyone is neither acceptable nor fair.
Dr Nitin Gupta lamented that she had conspired to scuttle the ambitious programme, " Doubling income of farmers by 2022", of Modi Government by condemning and insulting Veterinarians thereby demoralizing them . Every one was aware of the immense contribution of animal husbandry sector to boost the overall GDP of agriculture sector. During the ongoing pandemic, Veterinarians in the country had made valuable contribution to maintain the supply chain of milk, meat, chicken and eggs etc, besides ensuring preventive vaccination to livestock against infectious diseases like FMD, Haemorrhagic Septicemia, Brucellosis etc, breeding and treatment so that economy of farmers didn't suffer.
