Gian Sagar hosts open house on breast cancer

PATIALA: A function was organized in the Gian Sagar College of Nursing wherein the college hosted an open house for Breast Cancer Awareness Month today. The event was aimed at creating awareness among women about breast cancer and to teach people the importance of monthly self-checks.

Dr. Davinder Kaur, Principal of the Gian Sagar College of Nursing, spoke about the theme i.e. Rise Rally in Serving, Supporting and Screening Everyone.

Dr Kamaljit Singh, Principal of the Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital, who presided over the function, said every October marks the Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM), a national campaign to raise awareness for this cause. This year's BCAM theme focuses on coming together because no one should fight cancer alone.

Dr. M.P. Singh, Associate Professor, Department of Surgery, GSMCH, explained breast diseases and breast cancer. Gunjot, Tutor, Gian Sagar College of Nursing, dwelt on and demonstrated breast self-examination.

Dr S.P.S. Goraya, Medical Superintendent of the Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital, emphasized on early detection, screening and treatment of breast cancer.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM), also referred to in the United States as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM), is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure.
