Gian Sagar celebrates World Rabies Day

PATIALA: World Rabies Day was celebrated by Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital, near Rajpura in this district, at Government Senior Secondary School, Jhansla. The celebrations were presided over by Dr Kamaljit Singh, Principal of the Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Kamaljit Singh said this year’s theme “Rabies Facts: Not Fear” is focused on sharing facts about rabies, and not spreading fear about the disease by relying on misinformation and myths.

He said facts are essential for raising disease awareness, preventing rabies cases, having the animal population vaccinated, and educating people about the dangers of rabies and how to prevent it. Without facts we would not have data for decision-makers to inform them of the serious nature of the disease, he added.

A team of doctors and staff from Department of Community Medicine Dr Amarjit Singh (Professor and Head), Dr Sushil Dalal (Professor), Dr Ruchi Chaturvedi, Assistant Professor, Rajvir Kaur (MSW) and. Manjeet Singh (MSW) visited the school today. Over 100 students of Class IX and Class X were briefed about Rabies and its prevention.

Dr Amarjit Singh who discussed the theme for the year 2021 “Rabies Facts: Not Fear”. Dr Sushil Dalal and Dr Ruchi Chaturvedi answered queries by the students and staff members and busted various myths regarding treatment of dog bite cases.
